Photography is a way for me to spread love. Every year, I choose 12 of my favorite photos for a wall calendar. Each year, my calendar has a theme. For 2026, it is “Enchantment.”
Enchanted moments are fleeting moments filled with wonder and delight.
For inquiring minds who want a little backstory:
- When it snows, my alarm gets set for sunrise. I find the pristineness of a freshly blanketed landscape delightful. In my January photo, the snow was just the right temperature and texture to create a filigree effect, and the clouds allowed the scene to pop.
- In February’s photo, the pink backdrop from the sunrise was captivating. It is not always sunny the morning following a snowstorm, and all it takes is a gust of wind to dust off the branches before the light of day.
- The little critter popping up in April’s photo is a mink. I just happened to see it out of the corner of my eye, grabbed my camera, and fortunately, it stuck around for a game of Peek-a-boo.
- In July’s photo, the water was like glass, reflecting the azure-blue sky. The only ripples were from my paddling. I had to give them a minute to dissipate. The sun was just the right height for a stunning reflection of the water lily, as long as I was not casting a shadow, which can be tricky because kayaks don’t stay still. This flower happened to be larger than the others and in full bloom. I’ve taken a lot of water lily photos over the years, but this one was particularly stunning to my beholding.
- October’s bird is a Common Loon transitioning to its winter plumage. The backdrop of fall foliage was an added bonus. This was taken in the afternoon when the water could easily be choppy, so the reflection of fall color was a nice enhancement. It is very zoomed in. This loon didn’t mind my respectful presence. Sometimes they are curious about me also. “Funny looking human.”
These are just some of the images that capture the essence of enchantment in my calendar photos for 2026. Enchanting because you can’t make these elements come together. You can only delight in being present when they do.
